KATHLEEN "KAY"
RUBY, 93, of Oak
Park, died Aug. 11,
2014.
Born in Glasgow,
Scotland, on March
5, 1921, and raised
in Windsor, Ontario,
Ruby
she was the cher-
ished daughter of Maxwell and Nellie
Chaplin. A resident of Oak Park since
1955, Kay retired in 1984 as a vice pres-
ident and bank manager with 33 years
of service at American Savings & Loan.
In later years, she happily volunteered
her time and smile to greeting patients
and families at Beaumont Hospital.
She was the adored wife, best friend
and traveling companion for 62 years
of her beloved husband, the late Steven
Ruby.
Mrs. Ruby is survived by her lov-
ing nephews, Arnold M. Rubenstein
of Beverly Hills, Calif., Alvin S.
Rubenstein of Hiawassee, Ga.; niece,
Rosalind Levin of Lincolnwood, Ill.,
and their families, as well as her
sweet cousins in Scotland. She was
"Aunt Kathy" to Godson David Lewis
of Chicago, Cheri Alexander and Dr.
Richard Redding of Ann Arbor, Robyn
and Kurt Golarz of Oak Park, Donna
and Bill Oram of West Bloomfield,
Marcy Caplan of Southfield, Dana and
Ruby Littlefield of Chicago, Alexis
Redding of Boston, Roland Lewis of
Rancho Mirage, Calif.; and many oth-
ers of her loving, adopted family. She
was a very special friend of Jackie
Wilcox of Detroit, Oak Park neigh-
bors, Mr. and Mrs. Rick Brown, Joan
Goldman of Southfield, Dr. and Mrs.
Dan Lazar and dozens of others; very
best friend, her sweet pup, Rudy Ruby
Lazar.
Interment was at Oakview

Birmingham, died Aug. 13, 2014.
He is survived by his daughters and

Marilyn Schaefer; longtime partner,
Gladys Beznos; grandchildren, Alana

Bacher, Nicole (Dedi) Liebovitz,
Joshua Schaefer, Sydney Schaefer;

Mr. Schaefer was the father of the
late Steven Schaefer; the brother of the
late Rhoda Roth.
