is original to
the house but
required new
brickwork.

solution-dyed fabrics

A fully equipped kitchen, with refrigerator, ice maker, dishwasher and a
pair of granite-topped work spaces, sparkles with a backsplash of Pewabic
tiles and a bar covered with a slab of granite that swirls with a spectacular
beachy palette. Carnovale designed the custom stainless cabinetry, "which
will last forever, even outdoors." Behind the limestone-walled kitchen, a door
leads to the pool house, with changing area and shower. Above, a structural
steel pergola, created by Carnovale, becomes a sculptural centerpiece while
giving the entire eating area a sense of geometry. "We looked at the original
structure for design inspiration, at the brick, stone and character, and we
looked at traditional designs to complement what was there," says Carnovale.
"Then we looked at more contemporary designs that allude to an older home
but with more modern materials. The resulting design is an acknowledgement
of the old while bringing in the new. It ties the outdoors and indoors together
in a spectacular but very functional way."
