Lawrence Tech To Honor Levin With New Award U S. Sen. Carl Levin, D-Mich., will be the first recipi- ent of the Global Citizen Award to be presented by Lawrence Technological University (LTU) on Sunday, Aug. 24. The award pre- sentation will be made at LTU's annual convocation ceremony for new students and their families at 12:30 p.m. on Aug. 24 in the ask Sen. Levin Ridler Field House on the LTU campus in Southfield. It will also mark the con- clusion of the annual President's Global Village Project for LTU students. Lawrence Tech President Virinder Moudgil established the Global Citizen Award to recognize individuals who have shown great character and leader- ship in addressing global issues and promoting international and social understanding. This award will be given annually to a person who demon- strates the passion and energy to make a positive impact on humanity through collaborative enterprise and spirit. After serving 36 years in the U.S. Senate, Levin is stepping down when his term ends in January 2015. He has played an influential role in U.S. for- eign affairs as a member of the Armed Services Committee since 1979. He has been the committee's chairman since 2007. "Sen. Levin's contribution to global citizenship will be a lasting memory and a testament to many who follow his exemplary leadership:' Moudgil said.
