immediately destroyed. The prime beach-
front property on the Mediterranean and
their creativity could have been used to
build a peaceful economy.
Contrary to the chants of the protestors,
Gaza was set free until Hamas was voted
in and turned it into a terrorist bastion.
Hamas is a Muslim Brotherhood affiliate
whose long-term goal, like ISIS in Iraq, is
to establish a global caliphate.
In spite of the commotion, ZOA held
its officer election and discussed the new
threat of anti-Semitic subliminal messag-
ing as used in the film Drive and Nike's
The Next Game advertisement.

Eugene Greenstein, president,
Zionist Organization of America-MI Region

It didn't draw as many people, but it did
demonstrate our community's dedication
and willingness to face our enemies. Even
though there were only a couple hundred of
us at the JCC, we still outnumbered them.
No matter how much Israel's opponents
claim to love Jews but hate only Zionists
and Zionism, by presenting this false
dichotomy, they lie. Lying is what our
enemies have always done.
While some of our Jewish leaders were
against the JCC counter-demonstration,
recent history shows that only by standing
strong against our enemies will the Jewish
people prevail, allowing us, our children
and our grandchildren to prosper and
remain free.

Twice since the launching of Operation
Protective Edge our local Jewish commu-
nity has come together to support Israel.
The first time was at a planned event at
Congregation Shaarey Zedek, which drew
around 2,000 people.
The second was a quickly organized
response to a planned demonstration of
hatred against Israel and our Jewish com-
munity at the Jewish Community Center
in West Bloomfield.

I applaud your paper and writer, Ronelle
Grier, for writing and publishing the
front page story "Call Him Hunter" (July
31). His parents, Roz and Richard Keith,
should receive a standing ovation for the
outstanding role they played in his transi-
tion from Olivia to Hunter. What an amaz-
ing and well-written story!

atter up! The summer is in full
swing and so are our Detroit
Tigers. But, are you aware that
76 years ago, in 1938, Detroit Tiger Hank
Greenberg, an icon of Detroit Jewish pride,
hit 58 home runs and nearly broke Babe
Ruth's "untouchable" single-season record
of 60?
Three years later, the Tiger slugger
was also the first Major Leaguer to enlist
in the Armed Forces after the Japanese
attack on Pearl Harbor.
Greenberg returned to the Detroit
Tigers in 1945 and led the team to a
World Series championship.
In 1948, Greenberg retired from the
game and was employed as a front-office
executive with the world-champion
Cleveland Indians.
So, the next time you are singing

Comerica Park, remember that some of
