for Detroit returns to
Belle Isle to celebrate its
fifth anniversary from
9 a.m. to 4:30 pm.
For the first time, the tournament
will be ditching softball to play
some fun and competitive kickball
in Detroit.
This annual charity tournament
is part of the Jewish Federation
of Metropolitan Detroit's
CommunityNEXT, providing fun,
meaningful and exciting programs
and events for young Jewish
Detroiters.
Pitch For Detroit is a communal
fundraiser that benefits the Do It For
Detroit Fund (Di4D). Di4D supports
community efforts that promote the
revitalization of the city of Detroit.
The event empowers young adults
to give back to their community and
provides opportunities to engage in
meaningful volunteer service.
What started as Pitch For
Israel five years ago by two
20-somethings, Adam Blanck —
who is also this year's event chair
— and Benjy Gordon, has morphed
into a heartbeat for Jewish Detroit
and the broader community, with
more than $200,000 raised from
past years. Seeing the need to be a
part of a diverse community that is
contributing to strengthening the
city, Pitch for Detroit was born.
More than 600 people are
expected to attend. This year, the

goal is to raise $25,000 to support
Detroit Firehouse Engine 33/Ladder
13. The Detroit Fire Department is
underfunded and underequipped
while fighting approximately 5,000
arson fires a year and thousands
of other types of fires and medical
emergencies that they respond to
every day. The money raised can
provide the firemen with new safety
equipment, boots and clothes.
"I am ecstatic to partner with
Detroit Firehouse Engine 33/Ladder
13 to help provide much-needed
equipment and create what I hope is
a long-lasting relationship between
NEXTGen and the firehouse," Blanck
said.
The firemen and their families
will be attending the event on
Belle Isle, sharing their stories and
playing kickball with members of the
community.
This free, fun-filled day is great
for all ages. Bring your friends and
family, grab a hot dog, listen to
music, watch the kickball game and
enjoy Belle Isle!
