Rachel and Jeff Schostak of Birmingham; Arlene and Asher Tilchin of Farmington Hills; with Amy and Stuart Brody of West Bloomfield. Group with origins in Belarus aids JARC. T he David-Horodoker Organization (DHO) was originally formed to aid the community of David-Horodok, located in what is now the Republic of Belarus. Years later, members who immigrated to the Detroit area decid- ed to continue their charitable efforts by giving locally to area organizations, including JARC, an organization serv- ing men, women and children with disabilities. Last month, several members of the DHO joined Robbie Kaczander and the staff at JARC's Hilda Schechter Home in West Bloomfield for the third annual Shabbat BBQ. Making the occasion even more memorable is the fact that Robbie's grandfather came from David- Horodok, making Robbie a third- generation member of the group. The DHO's youngest member, 1-year-old Lily Rose Brody, daughter of Amy and Stuart Brody of West Bloomfield, was also in attendance. Thirty-five guests joined event chairs Rachel and Jeff Schostak of Birmingham and associ- ate chairs Danniell Nadiv of Ferndale and Ben Friedman of Detroit for the Shabbat celebration. "We are so happy to have started and to be part of such a wonderful tradition with two amazing organizations:' said event chair Rachel Schostak. "The pur- pose of the BBQ was to introduce the David-Horodoker philosophy of giving back to the community to young adults and strengthen the organization's rela- tionship with JARC." Over the years, the organization established two funds to support JARC's mission. The David Horodoker Passover Fund helps to defray costs related to celebrating the holiday for people in the independent living program. The David-Horodoker Children's Therapy and Equipment Fund helps with unmet needs of children served in JARC's Harris Children and Family Division. ❑ To make a contribution or tribute to the David Horodoker Passover Fund or the David-Horodoker Children's Therapy and Equipment Fund, call (248) 538-6611 or go to wwwjarc.org/ donate.
