Rabbi Krakoff Praised,
Executive Board Blamed
It is indeed the saddest of days when the
congregation your family has belonged to
for more than 50 years pulls the rug out
from under you and releases the rabbi
you have loved, cherished and revered.
Rabbi Krakoff has been our rabbi, our
counsel, a confidante, friend and teacher.
He has officiated at our children's b'nai
mitzvot. He has married our children,
blessed our grandchildren at baby nam-
ings and, with great sympathy, consoled
us at funerals and shivahs of loved ones.
This remarkable man has been a trea-
sured and devoted friend and mentor.
He has always made himself available
to all no matter where or when. He has
loved and devoted himself to hundreds
of Congregation Shaarey Zedek members
and their families in a tireless and self-
less manner, always putting everyone else
first. He never judged or questioned our
needs. He has always been there for who-
ever needs him.
Undoubtedly, Rabbi Krakoff is the fin-
est of men — and there are countless
members as well as nonmembers in the
community who attest to this whole-
heartedly and without reservation. How
lucky we are to call him our own.
The executive board of Shaarey Zedek
should be ashamed of what they allowed
to transpire and how they carried it out.
It is certainly not time for this amazing

man, and beloved rabbi, to leave. It is also
most definitely not in the best interest of
the membership. Perhaps it is time for
the executive board to rectify this hor-
rific mistake. Shaarey Zedek will never
be the same or mean the same as it has to
so many who hold Rabbi Krakoff so near
and dear to our hearts.
It is time for those executive board
members and others who counseled them
to step down and away. You do not share
our feelings, thoughts or opinions. You
do not speak for the majority. You speak
for only a minority. We are confident a
great majority of Shaarey Zedek members
believe this as well. This has devastated
and weakened the credibility of what
Shaarey Zedek should be.

Corrections
• In "Magen David Adorn Needs
Assistance" (July 17, page 6), an incorrect
phone number was given to make contri-
butions to the Israeli emergency medical
service. The correct number is (877) 405-
3913.
• The caption for the photo accompa-
nying Yiddish Limerick (July 17, page 5)
should have stated that Theodor Herzl
died 110 years ago.
• In "Family Fun" (July 17, p. 50), new
cabins in DeRoy Village were funded by
the DeRoy Testamentary Foundation.

t's summer. Are

you making final
plans for your summer concert tour
or sitting at home creating another
playlist for your morning workout?
Well, while building that list, there is an
excellent chance that you may include
some rock-n-roll or hip-hop mixed in.
Accompanying that mixture, you might
include the familiar sounds of some
well-known Jewish artists such as the
Beastie Boys.
Comprised of Adam "Ad-Rock"
Horovitz, Michael "Mike D" Diamond
and Adam "MCA' Yauch, the Beastie
Boys originally began as a four-piece
hardcore punk band in 1981. Declared
as the "Nice Jewish Boys from New
York" in the Detroit Jewish News, the
Beastie Boys were overwhelmingly
popular. With several platinum albums
from 1986-2004, the Beastie Boys are
one of the longest-lived hip-hop acts

DEPARTMENTS

The Beastie Boys — Mike Diamond. Adam litach and
Adam Horovitz — play the Palace on Tuesday

worldwide, and they have continued to
enjoy critical success for more than 25
years. From Paul Simon to Bob Dylan to
the Beastie Boys, Jews have made their
mark in American music.
