Bloomfield,
died July 5,
2014.
Born in
Ostrolcka,
Zate
Poland, Mr.
Zate immigrated with his family
to Detroit when he was 3 years
old. A graduate of Cass Technical
High School, he attended the
University of Michigan, later
studied to become a registered
architect and was a member
of the American Institute of
Architects. For 14 years, until his
retirement, he served as a plan
reviewer and building inspector
for West Bloomfield Township.
A lifelong sports enthusiast,
Mr. Zate bowled in the B'nai
B'rith Downtown-Fox League
for more than 60 years, serving
several terms as its president.
He also served as president of
the International B'nai B'rith
Bowling Association. The
Downtown-Fox League recently
honored him with a lifetime
achievement award and named
their season-best trophy the
Seymour Zate Cup.
He will be remembered for his
warmth, humor and optimism -
a man who always had a story to
share and a joke to tell. He took
immense pride in his family and
brought laughter to everyone
who had the honor to know him.
Mr. Zate is survived by his
wife of 55 years, Ileene Zate;
children and their spouses,
Kary and Christine Zate of
Marlborough, Mass., Ronald
Zate and Marshall Sprung of Los
Angeles, Barry and Cindy Zate of
West Bloomfield; sister, Gladys
Zate of West Bloomfield; grand-
children, Mathieu Zate, Lillie
Zate, Julia Zate, Lucy Zate.
He was the dear brother and
brother-in-law of the late Betty
and the late Jerry Grushoff, the
late Dolores Fox.
