The Governor's Council
on Physical Fitness,
Health and Sports has
selected Dr. Don R.
Powell as the recipient
of its 2014 Lifetime
Achievement Award.
The award recognizes
Powell
an individual who has
made landmark contributions to people
in Michigan and throughout the United
States through research, teaching, profes-
sional practice, and volunteerism related
to health and wellness. Powell is the
founder, president and CEO of the
American Institute for Preventive
Medicine and is a licensed psychologist.

Dr. Lee Hoffman has
been serving the podi-
atric needs of the com-
munity as a private
practice physician for
more than 35 years. In
March, Hoffman
received confirmation

of his recertification in
foot surgery by the American Board of
Podiatric Surgery. His recertification was
awarded upon successful completion of
his examinations, meeting the current
podiatric education and experience
requirements set by the American Board
of Podiatric Surgery in accordance with
the standards published by the National
Committee for Quality Assurance.
Hoffman was originally certified in 1995.

Oak Park native Aaron
Jonah Lewis is part of a
bluegrass trio, the Corn
Potato String Band,
which has released its
first, eponymous,
album. It's available at

Lewis
Last summer, the band
visited India on a U.S. State Department
tour. Next year, Lewis will join another
band, Tumbling Bones, as a guest artist
on a State Department "musical ambas-
sador" tour to another country, as yet
undetermined. Lewis and the Corn
Potato String Band are on tour in Ireland,
Great Britain, Germany and Sweden.

received the Dr.
Seymour Gretchko
Youth Advocate Award
at the recent Greater
West Bloomfield Annual Awards break-
fast. Siegler was first appointed to the
Walled Lake Schools Board of Education
in 1994, and he has won five elections to
continue to serve. His current term is
until December 2018. His continuity of
service is unsurpassed in Walled Lake
Schools. Siegler is also the treasurer for
the Oakland County School Board
Association (OCSBA) Board of Directors,
secretary of the Walled Lake Schools
Foundation for Excellence (FFE), and has
strong involvement in legislative commu-
nications with area state representatives
in Lansing.

Congregation Shaarey Zedek in
Southfield presented two of its outstand-
ing leaders special awards in recognition
of their service. Abigail Cohen, a gradu-
ate of ATID: the Alliance for Teens in
Detroit, a product of Tamarack Camps
and a long-time Congregation Shaarey
Zedek Religious School madrichah (teen-
age teaching assistant), received the
Andrea Lynn Rubenstein Award, present-
ed annually to a graduating senior who
displays outstanding leadership qualities.
Leah Gawel, a veteran educator and
Congregation Shaarey Zedek Religious
School teacher, received the Bernard and
Judith Cantor Outstanding Educator
Award. Gawel was praised for her unpar-
alleled passion for Jewish education, tre-
mendous creativity and true commit-
ment to her students and the synagogue's
religious school.

Councilwoman
Samantha Steckloff
has been named as the
city's representative to
the Millennial Mayors
Congress of Michigan,
city council liaison to
Steckloff
the Farmington/
Farmington Hills Commission on
Children, Youth and Families, and to
the Mayor's Youth Council. As one of
the first participants in the Farmington
Hills After-School Program and charter
member of the Mayor's Youth Council,
she has a long history of community
service.

Micah Fialka-Feldman

High School in 2003.
Since his graduation, he
has completed the

Oakland University and
is a teaching assistant/

University. Micah has
an intellectual disability, but nothing has
stopped him from reaching for his
dreams of inclusion for all. On May 9, he
was appointed to the President's

announced the opening of its new-
est Michigan office in Birmingham-
Bloomfield. This prime location in the
area represents a significant investment
in the eastern Michigan real estate mar-
ket. This office is the ninth in Michigan.
The new space accommodates 25 agents.
Three additional office locations are
planned for Southeast Michigan with
Plymouth/Northville, Rochester Hills
and Farmington Hills under consider-
ation.
