You cannot be a good Jew without the
drive to feed others. Some days my dad
feeds me a brunch of lox and bagels —
and an extra stop at the bakery for my
favorite dessert. Most days, he feeds my
mind, emailing me articles about ways to
achieve financial success or suggestions
for toddler snacks or silly jokes about
parenting. Every day he feeds my soul,
inspiring me to be the best I can be.
He sees only the good in others, turn-
ing a blind eye to their faults. In turn,

it makes me want to be the person he
believes me to be.
But nothing feeds my heart like
watching him with his granddaughters,
Ainsley and Kendall. The bond they
share is remarkable, as he passes along
his wisdom, love and optimism to the
next generation. He is a true mentsh and
the best Jewish dad in the world.

FULFILLMENT

dolph Alfred Taubman, real
estate developer, philanthro-
pist, a developer of shop-
ping centers, and ... owner of A&W
Restaurants Inc.?
That's right. In 1982, Taubman pur-
chased one of the oldest fast food chains
in the nation from United Brands. In an
effort to bring about a new era for A&W,
he moved the headquarters for the 900-
unit drive-in chain to Detroit.
In the hopes of developing a new
concept for A&W, Taubman planned
new menu prototypes and manage-
ment techniques. With the appoint-
ment of franchise owner and former
executive director of the National A&W
Franchise Association, Dale Mulder, as
president of the corporation, through-
out the 1980s, A&W expanded.
With his aggressive plan for the
restaurant chain, Taubman converted

200 snack bars, established 60 new
restaurants and brought A&W to seven
Asian countries. In 1994, Taubman sold
A&W Restaurants Inc. to Sagittarius
Acquisitions.
