Honoree Taubman looks back over community

history at JHSM annual meeting.

hilanthropist A. Alfred Taubman
received the Leonard N. Simons
History Award from the Jewish
Historical Society of Michigan (JHSM)
at its 55th annual meeting May 20 at
Congregation Shaarey Zedek in Southfield.
During the event, he shared his thoughts
on Detroit's early Jewish community and
its leaders at the prompting of "talk show
host" Scott Kaufman, CEO of the Jewish
Federation of Metropolitan Detroit. He
also celebrated his 90th birthday.
Keynote speaker Judith Levin Cantor, a
historian, author and former JHSM presi-
dent, spoke of the important work of the
organization in getting Michigan Jewish
history documented and in front of the
public, including historical markers that
"tell our story." ❑
