ZOA Petition Asks U-M
To Prevent Intimidation
Earlier this year, as part of an attempt
to pass a university-wide, anti-Israel
divestment resolution, some pro-Israel
students at the University of Michigan
were subjected to death threats and
anti-Semitic name-calling such as
"kike" and "dirty Jew."
Students (both Jewish and non-Jew-
ish) testified that they felt intimidated
and were afraid to go to class while
these threats were occurring.
The legal team of the Zionist
Organization of America has sent let-
ters to the leadership of the University
of Michigan, calling upon them to
take serious action against this bigotry,
harassment and bullying, but says it has
received insufficient response from the
university.
ZOA is now asking members of the
community to sign a petition calling
upon U-M to protect pro-Israel stu-
dents from threats and intimidation
on campus. The ZOA petition can be
found online at www.mizoa.org . For
information, contact the ZOA office:
(248) 661-6000.

NCJW Gets Aid For Its
Back 2 School Store
NCJW/Greater Detroit has been award-
ed $1,000 by the Staples Foundation,
the private charitable arm of Staples
Inc., under a new program that lets
Staples associates direct donations.
The Back 2 School Store is a one-day
event on Aug. 10, to help Detroit stu-
dents in need have the right tools for a
successful school year. The pop-up store
is designed to look like a department
store, where each child "shops" with
a personal shopper for new clothing:
shirt, pants, socks, underwear, winter
coat, hat, gloves and shoes. The child
also selects a new backpack and fills it
with school supplies, a book and per-
sonal care items.
