r. Maurice Reizen's memory
of chasing his wife Leanor
down the beach in Florida,
in front of cameras for a national TV
commercial — while both were in their
80s — should be an indication that their
marriage included a bit more excitement
than most.
This past summer Maurice, former
public health director of the state of
Michigan, and Leanor, a longtime popu-
lar local actress, celebrated their 70th
wedding anniversary at a brunch, where
those in attendance were treated to a
musical tune about "getting older" —
performed by the guests of honor.
Through the years, the Reizens traveled
extensively.
"Growing up, I had been in every state
except for Alaska, Hawaii, Washington
and Oregon:' said their daughter Nancy
Serlin of Farmington Hills.
"For more than 30 years, they would
drive to Florida. My dad would stay for
three months, but not mom. Florida
was too hot and boring for a whirlwind
like her, unless she was working there:'
And that's where the opportunity arose
for Leanor and Maurice's participation in
the memorable television ad.
"In 2008, my dad drove my mom
to Cocoa Beach for a shoot for Ocean
Potion," Nancy said. "She played a woman
in a tankini who did not use the sun
product. They loved my dad and put him
in the commercial, too. They even paid
him. His role was to lurk in the back-
ground and then chase my mom down
the beach:'

A Fascinating Career
"My mom has been acting ever since I
can remember; Nancy said. "She also

sings and dances. In the 1960s, she facili-
tated a radio show, interviewing actors
and was a longtime volunteer for Act
1, which introduces inner city kids to
the theater. She wrote scripts with Shirl
Harris for most of the Hadassah fundrais-
ing plays and sang in a quartet. I loved to
listen to them practice at my house.
"I grew up with all kinds of music in
our home Nancy said. "Sometimes my
dad would grab my mom and start danc-
ing around the house:'
On the big screen, Leanor was in the
comedy Super Sucker, a film about door-
to-door vacuum salesmen with actor Jeff
Daniels; and Offshore, about outsourcing
U.S. jobs to India, which filmed when she
was 83.
About 10 years ago, Nancy accompa-
nied her mom to a shooting of photo-
graphs for one of Eminem's CD covers.
"It was a hoot and a long day:' Nancy
said. "Not the career for me.
"But my brother Bruce takes after
my mother, recording Talking Books,
doing voiceovers, on-camera work, and
is an actor and singer:' Quite a few times
Leanor and Bruce have worked together.

A Healthier Michigan
"I was so lucky to be able to raise a fam-
ily and have a career as well:' Leanor
said. "I was fortunate that my husband
