MAKING A GOOD DOG INTO A GREAT DOG WITH CANINE ACADEMY DOG SCHOOL PROGRAMS! A fter going through dog training with her own dog, Lisa Farlin realized that she had learned some things about animal behavior and decided to study with an Animal Behaviorist. Now, eighteen years later, this decision has Lisa Farlin with a successful canine business, providing services within the Clarkston, Oxford, Rochester and Birmingham areas. Part of Canine Academy's services include an extraordinary Canine Dog School Program and Canine Residential Training Program. "If your dog is really good except when or until...the doorbell rings, company comes over, the neighbor's dog is in the yard or they are off their leash...then your good dog is not reaching his or her potential. Not everyone likes dogs, but everyone LOVES a well-trained dog" says Farlin. Canine Academy's Dog School Program is for dogs of all ages and breeds. "The family dog is such a big part of people's lives. When we improve a dog's behavior we improve the lives of both the dog and the humans" Farlin says. "With every dog that graduates, we expect at least two more as referrals. Once you've had a GREAT dog, you can't imagine anything less." Canine Academy offers weekly classes in Basic Obedience thru Advanced Obedience, Agility Training, Outdoor Outing Class, and even Therapy Preparation Classes. The Canine Academy Therapy Preparation Class is an extension of the Dog School Program, demanding the ability to demonstrate behaviors that are acceptable to an assessor in order to be a Therapy dog. Canine Academy prepares participants for their dog's assessment; and includes actual visits to Assisted Living and Residential facilities. These outings are all part of the services provided by Canine Academy's Dog School Therapy programming. One of the most popular summer classes is the Canine Academy "Outdoor" Outing Class. Registered participants are able to show their GREAT DOG talent in a local public setting such as parks, air restaurants, walking trails or concerts in the park. Again, all events are coordinated through the Canine Academy. This class is an example of the progression from a Beginners class to Advanced training, so Fido can continue to grow in how to handle distractions. And still, there is more! As part of the Dog School Program, Dog School participants are assessed for good manners using the American Kennel Club (AKC) Canine Good Citizen (CGC) and Community Good Citizen tests. This provides a dog with the nationally recognized status following the completion of an Advanced class. Both of these assessments will yield a high level of "Great Dog" credibility that will separate your dog from others in actual demonstrated behaviors. The Canine Academy, located in Birmingham at 953 S. Eton St. (along with 3 other locations in Oakland County), is a highly specialized off-leash dog-training facility as well, where, Farlin says, "We train good dogs into GREAT dogs!"
