metro >> around town Volunteers Honored F riendship Circle of West Bloomfield hosted its annual volunteer rec- ognition event at the Berman Center for Performing Arts to honor the 800 adult and teen vol- unteers who dedicate their time each week. The event opened with an original performance by Friendship Circle's Music and Drama program entitled "G-d is Everywhere:' Bassie Shemtov, Friendship Circle director, thanked each vol- unteer in the audience for being the strength for the children of Friendship Circle and showing them unconditional love. The night ended with an inspi- rational and unforgettable per- formance by Christopher Duffley, a 12-year-old singer from New Hampshire. He was born blind and autistic, but that has not slowed him down. He also showed up on the coldest, snowiest and iciest days this year, driving almost 15 miles each way from West Bloomfield to make sure he could greet and assist clients. He always does his job with a great sense of humor, compassion and thought- fulness.
