MARTIN
"MARTY" JACOB,
87, died peacefully
May 9, 2014, sur-
rounded by his loving
family.
Marty was a native
Detroiter. At the
Jacob
time of his death, he
was president of M. Jacob & Sons. He
had worked 70 years at this longtime
family business founded by his grand-
father, Max Jacob. Often referred to as
"Captain" Marty, he was an avid boater
and fisherman and was always known
for his famous fish frys.
Mr. Jacob was a man of many pas-
sions. Some of those over the years
included traveling, often to places both
near and far, vintage car collecting and
swimming to stay in shape; he was
always in great shape. He was known
by all in his neighborhoods for single-
handedly creating spectacular gardens
for all to see and enjoy. Everything he
did, he did whole-heartedly. He was a
friend to everyone he met, and he made
friends everywhere he went. He was
never at a loss for words, and his mem-
ory never faltered for all his amazing
and amusing life stories. Mr. Jacob was
a true historian and a generous soul.
He was the beloved husband of Vi
(Violet Lakofsky) for 64 years; dear
father of Darrell Jacob and Rick Owen,
Elyse Jacob and Dr. Scott A. Bass, and

of Max Jacob Owen (girlfriend, Anna),

Jacob, Autumn Jacob, Michael Jacob,
Micayla Jacob, Mikey, Danny and Eric;
great-grandfather of Julia Ann Bass;
special uncle to Sheldon and Barbara
Larky, Denise and Elliott Parr, Linda
and Steven Weiss, and their families.
He was the loving son of the late Ben
and the late Sophia Q. Jacob; special
brother of the late Bill Jacob.

Hill Park Cemetery in Birmingham.
