Suspects Arrested
In Shooting Of
Local Attorney

Ronelle Grier
Contributing Writer

F

our suspects, three men and
one woman, have been arrest-
ed for the shooting of attorney
David Zacks, who was shot through
the front door of his Bloomfield Hills
home on April 30 by a man claiming to
be a police officer.
Police believe the
shooting was the
result of a botched
robbery plan initiated
by one of the suspects,
Cassandra Chobod,
23, who police say
was acquainted with
Zacks and had visited
David Zacks
his home prior to the
incident.
The shooting took place around 11:45
p.m., when a man identifying himself as
a police officer rang Zacks' doorbell and
asked to be let into the house. When
Zacks refused and said he was going to
call police, the suspect fired five shots
through the front door. Three of the bul-
lets struck Zacks; two in his abdomen
and one in his leg. His wife, Rebecca,
called 911, and Zacks was taken by
ambulance to a nearby hospital where
he underwent emergency surgery. At
press time, he was in stable condition.
His wife and two children were not hurt.
Neighbors said they heard shots and
saw a man wearing dark clothes and a
hoodie hurry from the house and get
into a dark-colored car.
The other suspects, some with prior
criminal records, are Christopher
Hernandez Montiel, 20, Henry Williams,
20, and Devon Miller, 21, who is accused
of doing the shooting. The four Macomb
County residents were arraigned
Monday, May 5, in 48th District Court in
Bloomfield Township on several counts of
armed robbery, home invasion and assault
with intent to commit murder. Williams
and Miller are being held on $5 million
bonds; bonds for Hernandez Montiel and
Chobod were set at $2 million.
Zacks is a partner at the law firm
of Ishbia & Gagleard in Birmingham,
specializing in white-collar criminal
defense.
Bloomfield Hills police worked
with several local law enforcement
departments through the Major Case
Assistance Team, known as MCAT.
"It's a good example of how shared
services and collaborative efforts can
be used to fight crime," said Bloomfield
Hills Public Safety Director David
Hendrickson.
A preliminary hearing will take place
May 12 before 48th District Judge Kim
Small.
