The classes will be given by Rabbi Shneur Silberberg; the course is part of the JLI (Rohr Jewish Learning Institute) curriculum. Distilled into six succinct lessons, this Rabbi Shneur course offers an empow- ering outlook on life, Silberberg culled from the wisdom of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Menachem Schneerson. It is designed to appeal to people at all levels of Jewish knowledge, including those without any prior experi- ence or background in Jewish learning. "This course emphasizes the message that the world is God's garden, and we are all God's gardeners empowered and entrusted with a mission to enhance and beautify our surroundings," said Silberberg. "Our discussions will provide new perspectives, based on Kaballah and Jewish philosophy, that give us a positive outlook on how to respond to all that life presents us with:' "Paradigm Shift" will be offered twice weekly; six Sundays, beginning May 11, 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at Bais Chabad in West Bloomfield and six Thursdays, beginning May 15, 7-8:30 p.m. at the Jewish Federation Building in Bloomfield Township. The fee is $80, and there is a 15 percent discount if two people sign up together. Kadima Golf Classic At Franklin Hills Kadima of Southfield will hold its 13th annual Golf Classic beginning with regis- tration and lunch at 11:30 a.m. Monday, July 14, at Franklin Hills Country Club in Farmington Hills. Golf, cocktails, dinner and live auction will follow. All proceeds will benefit the Lois and Milton Y. Zussman Activity Center that provides those living with mental illness a safe and nurturing environment to socialize with their peers, be active and learn new skills. Vignettes From The JN Archives Adam Mosseri Detroit Jewish News Foundation Fellow ammy Woolf was a prominent Detroit bandleader and master entertainer. Woolf's all-Jewish band entertained guests at events all around the Metropolitan Detroit com- munity. One event was a GOOD BET, a funfest drive for veterans in February 1948, where he and musician brother, Mickey Woolf, donated their musical services. Woolf continued to provide musical entertainment for many veter- ans' groups. One of his favorite venues, for example, was the Detroit Marine Hospital. "The Listening Post," Danny Raskin's column, stated in 1949, that "through- out an evening he would entertain the guests as never before" In 1966, it was written, "Sammy Woolf has a poem that's worth the money ... Today, in 2014, the family tradition continues.
