Happy Hunting

New book shows how to use hunting
skills to achieve your goals.

Harry Kirsbaum
Contributing Writer

sing more than just hunting
metaphors, David Farbman
firmly believes that his book
The Hunt: Target Track and Attain
Your Goals (Jossey-Bass, 2014, $25)
will guide hunters and non-hunters
alike to use hunting strategies and
skills to achieve business goals and
happiness in life.
According to the book, the hunt
"shows you how to practice the disci-
pline of cool, egoless assessment and
action, expand your consciousness
and awareness, feel comfortable in
your own skin, and eliminate the dis-
tractions of pointless insecurity and
false priorities in order to observe
without judging and act without fear:'
The Hunt System, which is laser-
focused on desired outcomes, is sepa-
rated into five pillars:

• Consciousness: Be aware, in the
moment, and observe the world as a
scout, not a judge.

THE

HUNT

TARGET, TRACK, AND

ATTAIN YOUR GOALS

• Authenticity: Be honest about your
motives and your goals.

• Leverage: Use every person, tool,

weapon and event you encounter to
achieve your goals and expect to give
the same kind of leverage to others.

• Real Time Execution: Focus on
your target and stay on track even in
a fast-paced environment.

• Flow: See the world clearly and
own your desired outcome in such a
way that you naturally align yourself
with the people and things that will
support that outcome.

Farbman has been hunting since
he was 9 years old and has been
around real estate just as long, check-
ing out properties with his father,
Burt, who founded the Farbman
Group in 1976. Now 42, David is still
a partner there with his brother Andy
but has branched out to become
founder and chairman of Bingham
Farms-based Carbon Media Group,
a digital media company targeting
outdoor enthusiasts.
Naturally, deer trophies line
the offices of Carbon Media, and
Farbman usually wears one piece of

camo clothing.
He lives in Bloomfield Hills with
his wife of eight years, Nadine, and
his three appropriately named boys,
Hunter, 6, River, 4, and Fischer, 2.
The idea for the book is rooted
in failure: An idea for a televised
no-kill pro hunting tour called the
World Hunting Association backfired
with the hunting industry. He said
that ego made him "trigger happy"
and made him think that "no-kill"
hunting wouldn't bother the hunting
industry, so he failed to see the big
picture.
"Ego-distractors get in the way of
what you want to get done he said.
"If that desired outcome or target is
truly what you care about, you will
continually go back and ask yourself
how did that behavior or that action
serve me in hitting that target? And
if you're living in the Hunt System,
you're going to go back and say I've
