Jewish Parents Institute's model
seder includes its own Haggadah
with unique traditions.

ach year, Jewish Parents Institute (JPI)
families and guests get together for a model
seder held at the Jewish Community Center
in West Bloomfield. In addition to Passover foods,
the seders include familiar holiday and modern
music plus stories of the plagues, both traditional
and new
Throughout the
morning, guests
use the JPI Passover
Haggadah, which
was created by
JPI parents and is
updated yearly. This
unique Haggadah
includes writ-
ings by Theodor
Herzl, a toast to
all of humanity, a
Sydney Anderson reads
memorial prayer
from the Haggadah.
for victims of the
Holocaust and a
fresh take on the symbolic food found on the seder
plate as well as the traditional Passover story.

Vanish Hunger

Yad Ezra's successful annual spring fundraiser featured Matisyahu.

n March 27, Yad Ezra hosted its
annual spring event, "Vanish
Hunger," at the Royal Oak Music
Theatre with nearly 600 people in atten-
dance. The event featured an acoustic per-
formance by reggae and alternative artist
Matisyahu and opening act Kol Hakavod,
the premiere Jewish acappella group at the
University of Michigan.
The event raised enough money to pur-
chase one month's worth of groceries for
1,300 families or 3,300 individuals that
Yad Ezra serves on a regular basis from its
office in Berkley.
