DIME'S education model will attract
creative, young people from all over
the country to Michigan, while
creating more jobs in the education
sector; Rothstein said. DIME plans
to hire 20-30 instructors and tutors
by August.
DIME will formally open in
September, when renovations are
complete on the historic Bamlet
Building, located at 1265 Griswold
Street and owned by Bedrock Real
Estate Services. The school will occu-
py more than 20,000 square feet on
four floors of the seven-story build-
ing in Capitol Park built in 1896.
"Detroit has
always been
known for its
music and innova-
tive culture said
Dan Gilbert, chair-
man and founder
of Rock Ventures
and Quicken
Dan Gilbert
Loans. "I can
think of nothing more important
than locating institutions that attract
young talented people to the city:'
he said.
At DIME'S launch, Gilbert
announced that Quicken will offer
10 DIME scholarships to Detroit
Public School students.
Also at the launch, Nixon,
Dickinson and Clayman dem-
onstrated a snapshot of the cur-
riculum via U.K.-based band the
Wildflowers, which performed for
the media.
Clayman, who is managing direc-
tor of DIME, has spent her entire
career in the music industry, work-
ing with acts such as Neil Diamond,
Michael Jackson and Prince. She
also worked as international promo-
tions director at Sony Music U.K.
before joining Nixon in artist man-
agement and music education.
Clayman is
a member of a
Reform congrega-
tion in London.
She plans to split
her time between
the U.K. and
Sarah
Detroit, where she
Clayman
has a place in the
Broderick Tower in the center of
Downtown. She credits her Jewish
parents for inspiring her work ethic.
"Jewish people have a hard-
working nature, which my parents
instilled in me said Clayman, who
is single. "I'm excited to be coming
to Michigan, which has such a large
Jewish community — almost like an
extended family of Jewish people,
many of whom I've already met, like
Charlie and Dan:'
