to navigate the waters of success. We are emotional beings; we give birth and cry at love stories and want to meet our prince or prin- cess. But our roles in the world have changed. We still cry at love stories, but we now have to learn to think in a different manner to get where we are trying to go." She calls the system she devel- oped "skilled logic." It enables women to get away from emotion and see things the way they really are, to focus and create possibili- ties for themselves. "Once you step out of the emo- tion and use logic, the roof hold- ing down your personal and pro- fessional life will come off. There is nothing that can stop you; I mean nothing!" she said. Beckett recently got engaged to Jonathan Balbes. As thrilled as she is with her own personal and business growth, Beckett is most happy that her daughters have become emotionally healthy young women. Hayley works for a company that sells books to colleges. Allie is studying for a master's degree in occupa- tional therapy at the University of Southern California and doing a month-long internship with chil- dren in Ghana. Now Beckett is trying the entre- preneurial route again. She has started a company, U Got This, to teach other women the skills that took her so long to develop for herself. She also started a nonprofit, Stand4lt, to help women pursue their educational and business interests by provid- ing funds for registration fees, tuition, books and supplies, busi- ness planning fees, seed money and office supplies. Beckett is applying for tax-exempt status so she can accept donations. On April 19, U Got This will present its first daylong seminar, Find Your Amazing. The program runs from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. in the media center at Birmingham Seaholm High School. Beckett is keeping the cost low to encourage young women to attend. The registration fee is $75 per person — $65 for students and for anyone who brings a friend. Registration can be done through Beckett's website: www. ugotthis.net . She'll offer scholarships for those who can't afford even that much. Applicants should fill out the Contact Us form on her website to request financial assis- tance. ❑ JERUSALEM at The Henry Ford IMAX° Theatre See it for the first time on Michigan's largest IMAX' screen.
