As a child in Southfield, Devan Sipher appeared as "Jonathan" in the long-running Highland Superstore
television advertisements and was a junior cantor at Temple Israel. He is now a writer of the Vows
wedding column in the Styles section of The New York Times, and he is the author of the novel, The
Wedding Beat. He has written for numerous other publications including the Forward and the
Huffington Post, and his next novel, The Scenic Route, is being published by Penguin Random House
later this year.

Temple Israel Libraries and the Cohn-Haddow Center for Judaic Studies at Wayne State University are
pleased to welcome Dara Hom on Thursday, May 8 at 7 PM. Her books have been translated into many
languages and received much praise including, 2 National Jewish BookAwards, Reform Judaism Fiction
Prize, twice Editors' Choice in The New York Times Book Review, and Booklist's 25 Best Books of the
Decade. Ms. Hom has taught courses in Jewish literature and Israeli history at Harvard, Sarah Lawrence
College, and City University of New York.
