Hillel To Honor
Detroit Leaders
At Annual Dinner

H

illel Day School will honor
Miriam and Fred Ferber
with the 2014 Dream
Maker Award, and Rochelle and
Aaron Lupovitch with the Rabbi
Jacob E. Segal Award at the school's
annual dinner on
May 18.
For more than
40 years, Miriam
and Fred Ferber
have been active
supporters not
only of Hillel, but
4.1".t .4tis
of local Detroit
Fred and Miriam
and global Jewish
Ferber
institutions,
among them
such organiza-
tions as American
Friends of Magen
David Adorn,
the Holocaust
Memorial Center,
the Friendship
Aaron and
Circle, AIPAC,
Rochelle
JARC and Friends Lupovitch
of the IDF.
Their three
children graduated from Hillel, and
many of their 16 grandchildren are
students at or alumni of Hillel.
Rochelle and Aaron Lupovitch
have had a child or grandchild
attending Hillel since the 1960s,
and had a great admiration for
the late Rabbi Segal, a founder of
Hillel. They joined Adat Shalom
Synagogue because of the rabbi,
with Aaron eventually serving on its
board. Their involvement in Hillel
extends beyond that of parents and
grandparents; Aaron is a past presi-
dent of the board and organized the
first tuition assistance committee at
the school in 1975.
The dinner will also acknowl-
edge the inaugural winners of the
Hillel Day School Distinguished
Alumni Awards: Steven Winkelman,
a director at the Center for Clean
Air Policy; Joseph Green, a NASA
engineer; and Oren Goldenberg, a
filmmaker.
The annual dinner will take
place at Congregation Shaarey
Zedek in Southfield on Sunday,
May 18. To honor the Ferbers or
the Lupovitches in the Shulman
Scholarship Journal, contact
tpinter@hillelday.org by April 11.
For information about tickets to the
dinner, contact Cheryl Schanes at
cschanes@hillelday.org.
