72nd anniversary of the
Jewish News. The IN's first
issue is an irreplaceable representation
of its time, detailing local, national and
international events of importance to
the Detroit Jewish community in 1942.
The first issue celebrated the service
of local Jews in World War II; informed
its readers of religious and community
events; discussed controversies; and
included lighthearted stories "to relieve
the tension of the times:'
Advertisements from that first issue
also reminded us of stores, services and
products that were the mainstays of
everyday life in Metro Detroit.
The first issue of the JN also served
