It is an old gem juxtaposed with young visionaries finding ways to make memories in a city they are proud to claim. The Masonic Temple parallels this idea of old and new in a sense that it has been around for more than 85 years and is con- stantly finding innovative ways to keep its doors open — not just its front doors, but also the doors to all 1,037 rooms. No, that is not a typo. The Detroit Masonic is the largest Masonic temple in the world. Sure, it is big, but it is equally as beautiful. Architects sought castles in Italy as inspiration when designing parts of the building. They designed light fixtures and chandeliers, decorative arches, medallions, plaster decorations and a myriad of other artistic details that are unique to the Masonic Temple. The building contains a variety of public spaces including two theaters, two ballrooms and sev- eral other spaces that can serve as banquet halls.
