n 1973, Suellen Trionfi was married without her parents'
approval. Her husband was not Jewish, and even though
they were married by a rabbi and planned to raise their
children as Jews, their marriage caused much unrest within the
family.
This past summer, Suellen and Frank Trionfi celebrated their
40th anniversary. On July 3, their lake neighborhood had a huge
celebration ending with a fireworks display. This was Suellen's
chance to surprise her husband as well as all of her guests.
When most of her guests had arrived, she gave her usual
"welcome" speech, then got down on one knee and asked her
husband to marry her, again. "Thank goodness Frank agreed,"
Suellen says, "because Rabbi Daniel Syme was waiting in the car
to perform the vow renewal."
