placed in a wood-fired oven
behind the counter. The thin
crust on the pizza is baked to
a golden or dark brown, but
since I like mine less brown,
they happily accommodated
me by taking it out of the oven
just a little earlier than nor-
mal. The crust is still nice and
crunchy and the combination
of cheeses is a great blend.
"The parmigiano reggiano at
Crispelli's adds a bit of a nutty
flavor. Roasted garlic on top
is abundant and fragrant. My artichokes
were perfectly cooked, not chewy as they
sometimes can be. Mark's sausage was not
spicy, as he prefers, but it complemented
the pizza and added a nice element to the
flavor:'
SINCE HE MAY NOT have to be in
Chicago with the Tigers on that date this
year, maybe their former manager, Jim
Leland, will stay here to play golf with
his good friend, Michigan Jewish Sports
Foundation honoree Tony La Russa at
the 2014 Hank Greenberg Memorial Golf
Invitational, Monday, June 9, at Franklin

GIGI'S KORNER ... "We dogs sure
do like the one that Russi Arden tells about
the man writing a letter to a small hotel he
planned to visit on his vacation. 'I would
very much like to bring my dog with me.
He is well-groomed and very well-behaved.
Would you be willing to permit me to keep
him in my room with me at night?'
An immediate reply came from the
hotel owner, who wrote, 'Sir, I've been
operating this hotel for many years. In all
that time, I've never had a dog steal towels,
bedclothes or silverware, steal pictures off
the walls or use them as a coloring book.
I've never had to evict a dog in the middle
of the night for being drunk and disorderly.
And I've never had a dog run out on a hotel
bill. Yes, indeed, your dog is welcome at my
hotel. And if your dog will vouch for you,
you're welcome to stay here, too:"
QUESTION & ANSWER DEPT....
"My husband says that he was told that
fine dining is on the way out. And no more
dress codes. I can't believe this. Have you
heard anything about this?" ... Selma
Goodstein
[No, and I do not believe it to be true,
either. There will always be upscale dining.
It is definitely a way of life. Too many peo-
ple still enjoy dressing with shirt and tie for
the men, and smart hairstyle and dresses
for the women.]
OLDIE BUT GOODIE DEPT. ... A
man suffered a serious heart attack and
had open heart surgery. He awakened from
the surgery to find himself in the care of
nuns at a Catholic hospital.
As he was recovering, a nun asked him
questions regarding how he was going to
pay for his treatment. She asked if he had
health insurance.
He replied, in a raspy voice, "No health
insurance:'
The nun asked if he had money in the
bank. He replied, "No money, either:'
The nun asked, "Do you have a relative
who could help you?"
He said, "I only have a spinster sister,
who is a nun."
The nun became agitated and
announced loudly, "Nuns are not spinsters!
Nuns are married to God:'
The patient replied, "Then, send the bill
to my brother-in-law:'
