home Green House from page 52 "We wanted something bright for the basement," says Whitney of the lime-green walls. Spray foam insulation (covered here with green paint) was applied throughout the entire house, and a tankless on-demand water heater and LED lighting help make the home energy efficient and cut down on bills ("Our biggest heating bill this winter was $80," says Chad). The table acts as a rejuvenation area for the orchids: "We let them hang out here until they bloom again," says Chad. The basement also has a guest room; 13 of Whitney's out-of-town family members happily stayed in the home for the couple's wedding. An expansive-feeling glass door opens to a bath with a walk-in shower. "Because the basement ceilings are low, and my son is tall, we jackhammered the floor of the shower so that he can stand comfortably," says Ilene. A durable tile made to look like Carrara marble lines the floor and walls. Ilene created one large master bedroom with a walk-in closet and a welcoming bath from the home's original two bedrooms (one with a tub so tiny the couple now use it for a planter in the garden). Zerra polished slate runs on a diagonal across the floor and side of the tub, contrasting with the vertical ribbed porcelain tile on the wall inside the tub. In keeping with the family's philosophy of sustainable building, Ilene scooped up a granite remnant from another job and brought it in for the bath's countertop, which sits atop a custom oak vanity by Dennis Putnam. Introducing Wyeth TM A legacy of design and performance The days of pretty for pretty's sake are over. Now, more than ever, bathrooms need style with substance. TOTO bath fixtures save money and water without losing an ounce of performance, or sacrificing their good looks to do it. ADVANCE PLUMBING SUPPLY COMPANY COME VISIT OUR OUTSTANDING SHOWROOM 1977 E.
