Wrestling's Heyday

Sol Light recalls the rough-and-tumble world
of Detroit's Big Time Wrestling.

n 1945, a kindergarten teacher contacted Harry and Mary Light and
requested a conference about their little boy, Sol.
"He is delusional, your son," the teacher said. "He talks about killers
and assassins and stranglers. Something's wrong. He's scaring the other
children."
"You know what? He's telling the truth:' Mary said. "Strangler Lewis has
been at the house, and so has Killer Kowalski."
Because Harry was a wrestling promoter and charter member of the
Sol Light
National Wrestling Alliance in Detroit, he invited some of the "talent" to
share Sunday dinners with his family, where Mary cooked up a storm and
young Sol shared the table with wrestlers
