Oak Park JCC Kicks
Off Its Swim Academy
The Jewish Community Center of
Metropolitan Detroit in Oak Park recently
hosted a Camp Discovery/JCC Lenny
Krayzelburg Swim Academy kickoff with
more than 200 guests, including Olympic
swimming champ Lenny Krayzelburg.
The event featured arts and crafts,
snacks and games, as well as a demon-
stration that showcased participants —
some as young as 15 months — in the
Swim Academy. Lenny Krayzelburg also
brought his Olympic gold medal, which
children had the opportunity to try on
for themselves.
"Being a part of the LKSA is the high-
light of our week:' said Sheina Rivkah
Bennish of Oak Park, whose 17-month-
old son Dovid takes lessons in the acad-
emy. "It continues to build my son's con-
fidence in the water. We were so grateful
for the opportunity to meet Lenny K
himself and for his commitment to kids,
inspiring them to be healthy and happy"

The finest Japanese and Chinese cuisine has come to West Bloomfield.

Grant Expands JVS Jobs
Program For Older Workers
Older workers are far less likely to be
unemployed, but much more likely to
be out of work for an extended period if
they do lose their jobs. A JVS program
to help those over 50 re-enter the work-
force will expand this year, thanks to a
grant from Bank of America Charitable
Foundation.
The five-week program — Recharge!
— helps older unemployed or underem-
ployed workers re-examine their skills,
interests and experience in order to find
a rewarding encore career. In group ses-
sions, participants polish their resumes
and learn how to rebrand themselves
and use the latest tools (including social
media) to navigate the job market.
"Once unemployed, statistics show
that older workers tend to remain jobless
for longer periods than younger workers:'
explained Lisa Bartley, Recharge! coor-
dinator. As a result, job seekers over 50
often feel stuck and beaten down during
the difficult transition of unemployment.
Recharge! boosts their self-confidence
and helps them regain control over their
personal situations:'
The next Recharge! series takes place
at JVS in Southfield from 10 a.m.-noon
on Tuesdays and Fridays, March 11
through April 11. For further informa-
tion, contact Lisa Bartley at (248) 233-
4234 or email lbartley@jvsdet.org .
