Parents and kids are continually amazed at the modern and patient
friendly techniques that are now routinely utilized in orthodontics.
Discomfort has been minimized with the elimination of heavy forces. More
efficient and lighter forces with archwires made of new materials have brought
many smiles to orthodontic patients. Some wires that cause movement are
temperature sensitive, so patients have more control as to the level of comfort
and speed at which the teeth move. Warm foods and mouth temperatures
activate some of these wires, while if a patient feels uncomfortable, a cold

drink brings a smile. Headgears are virtually a technique of the past as
alternative techniques now exist. The actual braces have become smaller, so
less noticeable, with the added benefit that with smaller brackets come lighter
forces. Titanium braces are available for added comfort or a different look.
Clear braces have been improved to resist stain and are almost invisible.
