YACHAD MIDWE, 4=4Mliv 3rd HARTMAN FAMILY FOUNDATION Iran would retaliate in a massive way against an Israeli strike because Iranian leaders know that Israel's mili- tary might could crush their regime. Other ZOA Efforts The ZOA has two full-time lobbyists on Capitol Hill, meeting daily with members of Congress and others. Klein, who lives in Philadelphia, said he goes there every few weeks and knows many of the senators and con- gressmen. The ZOA also assists Jewish college students. It fought to get harassment of Jewish students on campus covered by the provisions of Title VI of the federal Civil Rights Act. "We've filed seven or eight claims in the last two years against universities that are violating Title VI provisions:' Klein said. "We helped change the tenor of the campuses to some extent. We're very, very proud of that." The ZOA has six full-time profes- sionals at major campuses. It also sends 50 Jewish student leaders to Israel every winter. "They come back very inspired:' Klein said. The ZOA has an active Michigan region, led by Executive Director Kobi Erez, based in West Bloomfield, and President Eugene Greenstein of Farmington Hills. Klein said, "To me, this is the most frightening time for people who care about Israel and even the world in the 20 years I've been doing this." Klein admits the 1930s were a little more frightening, as Hitler rose to power and began his genocide. But with radical Islamic terrorists expand- ing their ranks and Iran on the fringe of getting nuclear weapons, there is plenty to be wary of. He indicated he wouldn't mind a little Divine intervention. "We need His help:' Klein said. Only emergency and birthing ser- vices were in operation on Monday at the two Jerusalem campuses, Mount Scopus and Ein Kerem. The doctors have been on partial strike, offering only urgent treatment on a Sabbath and holiday schedule for nearly a week. Hospital staff received only half their January salaries due to the cen- ter's $367 million deficit. Israel's Health Minister Yael German announced a financial recovery pack- age offered to the hospital, including a government loan of more than $14 million to be matched by Hadassah, the Women's Zionist Organization of America, Haaretz reported. The announcement came after the hospital on Friday filed for court pro- tection against its creditors, including employees filing to receive back sala- ries, after two Israeli banks cut off its lines of credit, according to reports. The money from the government and Hadassah would allow the hospi- tal to continue operating, but not to pay the back salaries. German, in an interview with Israel's Channel 2 News, said Hadassah's deficit was the result of too many employees, inflated salaries and difficulty in generating extra revenue from private medical services. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday accused Hadassah management of mishan- dling hospital debts, which the public will now have to pay for. "There was a serious failure there," Netanyahu said at the weekly Likud faction meeting, addressing Hadassah's financial mess, which has all but para- lyzed its two Jerusalem medical cen- ters. "When the government is in defi- cit, we handle it immediately. [They] accumulated debt there; it's unclear why, perhaps out of the assumption that someone would pay." ❑ If you had to push a rock up a hill everyday of your life, would each day be exactly the same?
