College Fair

Select your school with
eye to Jewish life on campus.

M

ichigan's first Jewish Life on
Campus College Fair will be
held on Sunday, Feb. 9, at
the Jewish Community Center in West
Bloomfield.
The event, sponsored by several local
synagogues, Jewish organizations and
the JN, will provide Jewish teens and
parents with resources that may play a
role in their college decisions by shedding
light on the religious, cultural and social
opportunities at various colleges and in
their corresponding communities.
The idea for a college fair with a focus
on Jewish life arose after representatives
from local Jewish organizations who
work with high school teens discussed
the college selection process with teens,
parents and colleagues.
It was determined a college fair would
be beneficial for high school juniors and
seniors because they could explore their
college choices through a Jewish lens
rather than the normal secular view-
point. Seldom do they receive informa-
tion about how to participate in Jewish
activities and organizations on campus.
The 2014 Jewish Life on Campus

College Fair will showcase colleges and
universities across the state, along with
Israel Gap Year programs; schools will
feature information on admissions, Greek
life, Hillels, study-abroad programs and
much more.
Two special-interest sessions will be
available. At 12:45 p.m., current local
college students will participate in a ques-
tion-and-answer session to share what
life is really like on campus.
At 1:30 p.m., Hebrew Free Loan will
present "Financing the College Education:
Where is the Money Coming From?" and
will share new financial aid opportunities
that exist for Jewish families.
Along with these sessions, Kol
Hakavod, the University of Michigan's
Jewish a cappella group, will give a per-
formance at 12:30 p.m. in the Handleman
Hall lobby.
This program is supported by a gener-
ous grant from the Jewish Federation
of Metropolitan Detroit's Stephen H.
Schulman Millennium Fund.
