UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN I ANN ARBOR
2013-2014
Thursday, February 6, 7:30 pm
Hill Auditorium
Comprising 24 young players from Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia,
Kremerata Baltica conquered the discerning audience with their
exuberance, energy, and joy in playing. This program features works by
Arvo Part, Mieczyslaw Weinberg, Benjamin Britten, and Dmitri
Shostakovich, whose Anti-formalist Gallery is "one of the most ironic and
politically powerful opuses by Shostakovich...[It] carries all the best
qualities of the composer's attitude toward Stalin's dictatorship and is,
at the same time, very amusing and entertaining." (Gidon Kremer)
