ne sport fan's enjoyment of the Super Bowl
reaches new heights. Shalom Michlin, 62, of West
Bloomfield will be enjoying the game from his
Super Bowl chair, a wicker loveseat operated by electric
motors and rollers that hoist him to the ceiling of his home's
glassed-in room.
The idea for the room was initially inspired by a friend's
sunroom, but ultimately the room keeps him focused.
"I am closer to HaShem when I am up there," Michlin
said. "The room is totally inspirational. I love to think up
there. I have come up with a lot of inventions up there and
lots of ideas in general. And when I get ideas, they come
from HaShem. I have gone up there to see a solar eclipse,
meteor showers and other astronomical events. This beauty
also brings me close to HaShem. It is beautiful when it rains,
when it snows and even when the wind blows."
The upper level of Michlin's house is cause for much curi-
osity to passersby.

t its combined meeting on Jan. 21, Jewish
Federation and United Jewish Foundation
board members approved a $950,000
disbursement to the Jewish Community Center of
Metropolitan Detroit to keep it operational through
mid-February.
Another more significant cash infusion is expect-
ed to follow soon to deal with the Center's long-
term legacy debt of several million dollars.
On Dec. 6, the JCC and Federation leaderships
were shocked to learn the Center's controller had

produced inaccurate financial reports that appar-
ently overstated revenues and understated liabilities.
The controller was fired within hours after dis-
closing what she had done. Immediately afterward,
a Federation/Foundation Task Force, organized
two years ago to help sort out the Center's long-
term financial problems, engaged Plymouth-based
Financial One, specialists in accounting for nonprofits,
to act as the JCC's emergency financial adviser.
