and his wife, Ellen, have a son
who celebrated his bar mitzvah
there last year. "We're expecting
our best year ever."
Birmingham Group specializes
in recruiting for management
positions for the construction
and oil and gas industries. They
fill positions ranging from project
and construction managers to
civil engineers and CEOs.
The company, through its
database and the industry
relationships it has built
throughout the years, is able
to find the best of the best for
its clients nationwide, many of
which are Jewish-owned, such
as Sachse Construction in Detroit
and PCI One Source Contracting
in Oak Park, two local firms
where candidates were recently
placed.
The Birmingham Group was
able to weather the economic
downturn in 2008-2009 that
decimated the construction
industry while 75 percent of its
competition went under.
The Birmingham Group
currently employs seven
recruiters and four
administrative staff. Binke
says he hopes to hire 11 more
recruiters eventually.
"It happens that we have a
lot of Jewish folks working for
us," he said. "Most had careers
in other areas where they
developed skills that can be
used in the recruiting industry.
We're looking for a few good
people who will enjoy the work
and earn a good living. Many
of our recruiters earn more
than the MBA and doctorate
candidates we place for our
clients."
The company is set to grow
even further. Its new digs on
Woodward place it firmly in "car
country," Binke said. "We're
starting to work at building our
presence in the auto industry,"
he added.
While Binke is accepting
resumes for the open recruiting
positions at the Birmingham
Group, the company does
not accept resumes from
those hoping to be placed at
one of their clients. For more
information, go to www.
thebirmgroup.com .
Binke hopes that other
young Jewish professionals, like
Epstein, will consider a career
with the Birmingham Group
and "stay in our community or
come back home."
