Anti-Semitism In Films
Topic Of ZOA Event
On Jan. 22, the Zionist Organization of
America-Michigan Region will present
"The New Anti-Semitism - Coming
Soon to a Theater Near You:' a shocking
look at hatred of the Jews in American
cinema.
The 2010 movie Drive, now a cult film,
takes Hitler's anti-Semitic propaganda
film Jud Sus to a new level using adver-
tising techniques aimed at the subcon-
scious.
A panel and video presentation will
explore how Drive delivers a subtle and
subliminal message of hate, using common
Christian and Jewish religious symbols and
themes to justify hatred and criminal vio-
lence against Jews.

L. Maas Prize, this year given to an individual
whose expertise in the fine arts might include

gist Steven Miller, local filmmaker Ellie
Mosseri and attorney Martin H. Leaf.
Presenters also will discuss the law-
suit regarding the film as well as the
response of watchdog groups and the judi-
ciary, including to what extent the First
Amendment protects films such as Drive.
Shelly Rossmoore will present the
2014 Annual Rossmoore Memorial Lion
of Judah Award in memory of Raymond
and Ian Rossmoore to the individual or
organization that has best exemplified
standing up and fighting this kind of
hatred.
The program will take place at 7:30
p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22, at the Corners
in West Bloomfield. There is no charge.
