Holocaust Center Brings
Barney Frank To Speak
Former 16-term U.S. Rep. Barney Frank
(D-Mass.) will be the keynote speaker Jan.
5, when the Holocaust Memorial Center
Zekelman Family Campus in Farmington
Hills opens its newest exhibit, Nazi
Persecution of Homosexuals, 1933-1945.
The exhibit, open through May 4,
chronicles the Nazi campaign that targeted
German men who, the state asserted, car-
ried a "degeneracy" that threatened the
"disciplined masculinity" of Germany. More
than 100,000 men were arrested.
In 1987, Frank became
the first member of
Congress to come out
openly as gay and, in
2012, he married his
longtime partner, becom-
ing the nation's first con-
gressman in a same-sex
marriage while in office.

The exhibit opening
will begin at 4:30 p.m.
Jan. 5. General admission tickets are $18
($10 for HMC members) and must be
purchased in advance. Contact Lawrence
at (248) 553-2400, ext. 24, or lawrence.wil-
lim@holocaustcenter.org to purchase.

Center in West

Julian
enthusiasts who believe
Levinson
that Yiddish has not only

a change of fortune in recent years. In his
lecture, he will argue for efforts to preserve
the Yiddish language.

Cohn-Haddow Center for Judaic Studies
at Wayne State University, the Sholem
Aleichem Institute and the JCC's Active
Adults Program.
