Israel Should
Just Say 'No'
Over the past few months there has
been a serious escalation of terror-
ism against Israel from inside and
outside the Jewish state. Attacks with
rockets, bullets, knives, rocks and
bombs have steadily increased with
a marked increase in injuries, deaths
and destruction.
From Gaza, Lebanon and Syria,
explosives are targeting Israel accom-
panied by threats of large arsenals
of longer-range, more accurate and
more deadly missiles soon to be
launched. Threats of nuclear anni-
hilation emanate regularly from the
radical Islamic regime controlling
Iran as they continue to enrich ura-
nium and plutonium.
Even as existential threats mount
against Israel, President Barack
Obama is pressuring Israel to sur-
render more land to the Palestinian
Authority (P.A.), land that will be
used by Arab/Muslim terrorists as
the new frontline in their ghastly
genocidal war against the Jewish
state.
To make matters worse, Obama is
bowing to P.A. demands to not allow
Israeli troops to defend the Jordan
Valley. This would make Israel, at
points, only 9 miles wide and would
leave Israel indefensible. This insan-
ity risks annihilation.
Hopefully, Israelis will say no to
more terrorist releases, no to sur-
rendering historically Jewish land
and strategically critical land to her
blood-thirsty enemies, and no to the
Iranian regime's desire to inciner-
ate Israel with nuclear weapons.
Hopefully Israel's leadership will
once again be wise and courageous
in combating this latest attempt at
destroying the Jewish state. Please,
just say no!

More Information About
Camp Willoway Origins
Since the article "Summer Fun:
Willoway Day Camp enters its
45th year" (Dec. 5, page 42) was
printed, we have received numerous
calls from friends, former camp-
ers and counselors surprised that
the Seidmans were not mentioned.
Therefore I would like to add the fol-
lowing.
Willoway Day Camp was founded
in 1969 by Melvin and Rita Seidman

with the Fishers. The Seidmans were
equal partners and totally involved
with the camp operation until 1987
when it was sold to the Fishers.
The camp's original location was in
Wixom on the corner of 12 Mile and
Beck roads.

Women-Only Fitness
Club Wins Praise
In your list of local fitness clubs I
was surprised at the omission of one
my favorite places to work out, my
local Curves. It is on Coolidge in
Berkley, and is a great place.
It is women only, and we use
hydraulic weights and circuit train-
ing to get fit. I like the atmosphere
and the trainers are there all the time
to help us.
The comradeship is good and the
club is always trying to help others
such as collecting clothes and books
for book drives. I know that other
women feel the same.

Mother Of Six Spends
Two Weeks Helping IDF
On May 5, Temple
Shir Shalom hosted
a Walk for Israel
event, and we par-
ticipated. I noticed
that there were a
number of local
Jewish organiza-
Andrea Lee
tions' vendor tables,
and I was excited
because I had recently been looking
for way to help my Jewish communi-
ty.
To my surprise, I quickly found
what I was looking for — Volunteer
for Israel representatives Paul Matlin
and Ed Kohl. From the moment I
met Paul, I just knew I was going
to volunteer somehow, someway. It
would be a sacrifice for my husband,
my six young children and me, but I
just knew that it would be worth it.
I had the pleasure of getting to
know Paul and Ed, and I was able
to solidify my plans to volunteer in
a two-week Sar-El program. With a
plane ticket in hand and a heart full
of pride and willingness to help, I
headed for Tel Aviv. At the airport,
I was met by the Sar-El representa-
tives, escorted to my IDF base and
began to work.

I worked so hard that the days
flew by, and I realized that my
dreams were not my own, but the
same dreams of the others who came
to this little country we call Israel.
I wanted to be something bigger
than myself, and I found it in my
two-week volunteer efforts through
Sar-El.
The friends and the memories that
I have made will remain with me
always, and I received more than I
gave.
The sacrifice that my family made
was nothing compared to the sacri-
fice that the very young Israeli men
and women make to keep Israel safe
and independent.
In my heart, I feel that I was lucky
to be given this opportunity to help
Israel.

Several Restaurants
Supervised by Vaad
I subscribe and look forward to read-
ing your paper. You often write about
restaurants, but kosher restaurants are
not usually mentioned. I would think
that many of your readers might be
interested in knowing about kosher
restaurants in the Detroit area.
The following kosher restaurants
are all under the supervision of
the Council of Orthodox Rabbis of
Greater Detroit [Vaad Harabbonim]:
• Dave's Gourmet (meat), Oak
Park.
• Sara's Deli (meat), at the Oak
Park Jewish Center.
• Jerusalem Pizza (dairy),
Southfield and at the Jewish
Community Center in West
Bloomfield.
• Gold 'n' Greens, (dairy) on the
Wayne State University campus.
• Mazal Tov Kosher Cuisine is at
the Jewish Center in Windsor, Ont.
In addition, Quality Kosher
Catering (meat), under the supervi-
sion of Star K, will open in Oak Park
in place of the recently closed Unique
Kosher Carryout.

Happy New Year!

What should
I do different
in 2014?

We begin each year anew

with stated goals and the
promise to attend to those
lingering matters that we
meant to address in years past. This
year you need to follow through
on what you need to do. Goal #1
- Create the Plan for your Future.
Goal #2 - Begin Implementation. For
your financial future, there are two
key issues - saving for retirement
and making sure your estate is in
order. To save - you must evaluate
your income and spending. If you're
carrying too much debt, saving can
be impossible. If that is your problem
then you should explore options to
shed debt - particularly credit card
debt - what I call financial cancer.
To put your Estate in order, you
must have an estate plan in place
- a revocable living trust, wills and
durable power of attorney. You also
need to look at Medicaid planning
options for your parents and you - to
cover your later years. Step #1 - call
us at THAV GROSS - we'll get you on
the right track this year. If you wait,
it will 2015 too soon!

THAV GROSS

has been solving
its clients' business, tax and financial
