At the same time, teens in 30 cities across North America held simi- lar programs. Each individual brought a minimum of two kosher non-perishable food items to donate to Yad Ezra. In total, BBYO's teens collected more than 1,100 pounds of food to directly impact the Metropolitan Detroit community. In exchange for their donations, teens were treated to an exclusive screening of the newest film in The Hunger Games series and got to see the film before its release to the general public. Local BBYO teen leaders made a film about hunger awareness that was shown before the movie, and each teen received a "swag bag" containing information about how to get involved in hunger issues as they left the event. "The 'Hunger is Not a Game' initiative is a great example of BBYO's mission — More Jewish Teens, More Meaningful Jewish Experiences:' said Eric Adelman, director of BBYO Michgian Region. "BBYO used the excitement over this film to attract hundreds of Jewish teens, including dozens who are otherwise unaffiliated with our community, to learn about Jewish values, raise awareness of hunger in our community and to collect an incredible amount of food for those in need. I am proud of our teen leaders for their commitment to making a difference in our world:' Palladium 12, corporate sponsor of the event, along with co-sponsors Bernard Wealth Management, Lakeview Family Dental, Sherwood Food Distributors and Zoup!, helped make the event possible and create the true movie premiere experience. This programming year, BBYO is focusing on raising awareness about hunger as a movement-wide cause.
