Detroit Dogs
Noticed at 200 W Fifth Ave. in
Royal Oak, a "coming soon" sign for
Detroit Dogs, a new eatery featuring
gourmet hot dogs, reports the food
blog Eater Detroit. Nino Perna of
Monroe and partner Tony Sacco, also
of Monroe, have more than 70 years
of combined restaurant experience.
The pair are also partnering with two
Royal Oakers — Nick Sacco and Joel
Karboske — and plan to open the
new restaurant within the month.
"The concept of Detroit Dogs
is that everything is local. We use
Dearborn Brand hot dogs and a
bakery in Hamtramck for the buns.
We'll sell Faygo Pop and Better
Made potato chips. Our menu is
small, but it's cool:' Perna said.

BBQ In Milford
The new Smoke Street barbecue
restaurant in downtown Milford (424
N. Main) features soulful favorites,
including beef brisket, chicken and
pulled pork sandwiches and St.
Louis-style ribs. The ribs are moist
and served "dry" — meaning dry-
rubbed but not sauced. Diners can
add their own at the table, choosing
from six distinctive house-made
styles. The signature Street Sauce is
tangy, mildly hot and complex. www.

Best Late Night Food In
The U.S.
"They up the meat-and-pita game
here by wrapping it in cabbage and
French fries and slathering on garlic
paste says Esquire magazine of the
shawarma at Detroit's Bucharest
Grill (2040 Park Ave.), voting it
among the best late night food
found in the U.S. "Good after a few
pints of Motor City Brewing Works'
Ghettoblaster ale, which you're likely
to have drunk, since the Bucharest is
located inside a bar:' bucharestgrill.
