Just In Time For 2014

Henry Ford WB Hospital fundraiser
raises funds for breast cancer center.

Co-chairs Micki Kline and Francee Ford, speakers Bill and Guiliana Rancic,
and co-chairs Florine Mark and Lisa Lis

G

iuliana Rancic wanted to
be the anchor of a news
program since she was a
little girl, watching television to learn
English. Now the host of E! News,
Giuliana and her entrepreneur hus-
band, Bill, winner of The Apprentice
in its first season, were the keynote
speakers at the ninth annual Mothers,
Daughters, Sisters & Friends luncheon

at Shenandoah Country Club this fall.
Event co-chairs were Florine Mark
and her daughter, Lisa Lis, and
Francee Ford and her mother, Micki
Kline.
More than 700 guests listened
intently to the speakers as they told
how they met, their infertility strug-
gles and about her battle with breast
cancer. They credit their 1-year-old

son, Duke, with saving her life. Her
doctor would not begin infertility
treatment before she had a mammo-
gram, even though she was only 36,
because cancer grows more aggres-
sively during pregnancy. And that is
how her cancer was found at an early
stage and removed. Giuliana says
her recovery was helped by focus-
ing on her new baby, born through
a surrogate less than a year after her
diagnosis.
More than $100,000 was raised
for the Francee and Benson Ford Jr.
Breast Care and Wellness Center at
Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital.
Guests were surprised after the pro-
gram by the Rancics' spontaneous
raffle for a trip for two to be in the
audience for Fashion Police, including
airfare to Los Angeles. After a bidding
war, the Rancics awarded two trips for
two to some very happy guests: Shari
Finsilver of Orchard Lake and Krista
Berman of West Bloomfield.

M

edical Weight Loss Clinic (MWLC), a
board-certified physician-administered
diet program with more 30 locations in
Michigan and Ohio, will introduce updated diet plans.
The changes, likely the most significant since the
company began more than 25 years ago, are being
unveiled Dec. 31. New corporate branding accompa-
nies the diet changes.
"For many years, MWLC has been very success-
ful in helping a lot of people achieve their individual
weight loss goals, but as nutritional recommenda-
tions, the food industry and individuals' needs have
evolved over time, so too must we," said David Paull,
president of MWLC. "The changes will most definite-
ly be welcomed, because we've expanded the options,
adding more protein and starch choices to the menu,
and also added flexibility to how often you can choose
items from these categories."
The updated menu, which is intended to be less
restrictive, easier to follow and offer greater results,
also is better reflective of today's more informed pal-
ates and current food trends. It also reflects patient
feedback. New to the MWLC program, for example,
are lean protein choices like venison, as well as
healthy eating's new starch superstar, quinoa.
