The long-simmering conflict involv- ing Frankel Jewish Academy in West Bloomfield and some parents, rabbis and community leaders who felt the Jewish high school is becoming less inclusive con- tinued this summer as a legal complaint was filed seeking to compel the board to release information; it was later withdrawn. Community leaders continue working toward a com- promise related to the school's hiring policy for its Judaic Studies department. The dis- agreement remains unresolved. Detroit's Emergency Manager Kevyn Orr files bankruptcy on July 18. Jewish resi- dents of Detroit react to the news with many sharing the views of Jake Cohen, a partner at Detroit Venture Partners, who said, "The bankruptcy is a much-needed chance for a fresh start!' 25th Anniversary Temple Shir Shalom in West Bloomfield celebrated its silver anniversary with a fundraiser at the synagogue. JFS Celebrates 85 Years Nearly 300 people came out to help Jewish Family Service celebrate its 85th anniversary at the Berman Center for the Performing Arts at the West Bloomfield JCC where a video provided a historical overview of JFS pro- grams over the past 60 years. The Oak Park Jewish Community Center's new Community Recreation Park opened June 24, thanks to gen- erous donors and community volunteers who helped build it. 50 Years Later The Jewish community helped commemo- rate the anniversary of Detroit's Walk to Freedom with Rev.
