Obituaries SOL MARTIN KOZLOFF, 94, of Oak Park, died Dec. 3, 2013. He was born in St. Louis, Mo., and in his teenage years was one of the city's fastest sprinters in track and Kozloff field. Working various c. 1943 jobs during the Great Depression, he moved to Detroit in 1939. At Neisner's Variety Store, he worked alongside his future wife, Florence. The two remained happily married until her passing in 1980. A veteran of the United States Army during World War II, he served in the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater. During that time, he was in the Rome-Arno, North Appennines and Po Valley campaigns. After the war, he worked at several department stores, trained and soon became a skilled machinist. In the early 1960s, he became the pro- prietor of the Belle Isle Variety and the Michigan 5 Cents to 5 Dollar Store. In 1989, he was honored with the Spirit of Detroit Award for "The kind of store you can't find anymore in recognition of a tone that these stores had maintained over the years. He retired from the dime store business in 1993. He was a member of Temple Israel for many years and was a longtime volunteer at the Detroit Institute of Arts. As a mem- ber of the B'nai B'rith Oakland Century Lodge, he was in charge of social events for which he was honored with the Spirit of B'nai B'rith Award in 1996. Mr. Kozloff is survived by his dear children, Edward (Susan) Kozloff, Barbara (Paul) Lewis and Mitchell (Anna) Kozloff; grandchildren, Ronald (Barbara), Kenneth (Kelley), Diana (Aaron), Joseph, Mark (Elizabeth), Rachel, and Emily; great-grandchildren, Riley, Kate, Natalie, Mackenzie and Jack; brother, Charles (Ruth) Kozloff of St. Louis, Mo.; loving companion, Sylvia Schey. BRUCE LEITMAN, 73, of Bloomfield Hills, died Dec. 7, 2013. He was a proud alum- nus of the University of Michigan, having received his undergrad- uate and law degrees Leitman from U of M. He was an attorney in Bloomfield Hills for more than 40 years. His first job out of law school was in the Oakland County Prosecutor's Office, a job that he enjoyed tremendously and found deeply gratifying. He then moved into private practice, where he focused on criminal defense and appellate litigation. He also taught as an adjunct professor at Wayne State University Law School. Throughout his legal career, Mr. Leitman had a commitment to fairness and civility, a focus on representing his clients zealously with a true love of the law. Besides the law, his passions included opera, World War II history and Great Danes. Mr. Leitman is survived by his wife, Dr. Susan Leitman; son and daughter-in- law, Matthew and Kelly Leitman of Troy; daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca and Jeffrey Veidlinger of Ann Arbor; grand- children, Joshua and Natalie Leitman, Naomi and Mae Veidlinger; sister, Cynthia Leitman.
