Chanukah In Lansing

A

joyous Chanukah party came
to the state of Michigan's
capital on Dec. 3, as Oak
Park's Lubavitch Yeshiva International
School for Chabad Leadership mem-
bers met with Lt. Gov. Brian Calley in
his Lansing office.
Rabbi Mendel Stein, Rabbi Mendel
Shemtov and philanthropist Alan
Zekelman, along with Oakland
County Treasurer Andy Meisner who
put together the event at the request
of the Lubavitch Yeshiva, spent more
than 30 minutes with Calley.
Additionally, five adorable first
graders and two moms were on hand
and ready to party.
The rabbis brought along a meno-

rah, which was presented as a gift to
Calley, and a symbolic lighting took
place.
Stein also spent time explaining to
Calley the history and importance of
Chanukah as the children sang festive
songs. To celebrate the sweetness of
Chanukah, the group brought along a
plateful of delicious donuts, which all
in attendance enjoyed
"It was so gracious of Lt. Gov.
Calley to meet with us and help us
celebrate Chanukah:' Stein said. "It
was also nice that Andy Meisner was
able to call upon his former Lansing
colleagues in Lansing to help make
this beautiful day a reality. We hope to
make this a yearly event:' ❑
