Ruthan Brodsky I Contributing Writer our Israeli exchange students from Hadassah Hospital in Jerusalem now have homes away from home as three local Jewish families have "adopted" them during their stay through the end of the year as students at Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine (OUWB). Hosting families include Drs. Barbara and Irvin Kappy of Orchard Lake, Michal and Dr. Howard Korman of Southfield, and Elaine and Dr. Robert Robins of West Bloomfield. Since they arrived on Oct. 7, the Israeli students, who are on their three-month senior clinical elective, have been get- ting to know Jewish and secular Detroit. For three generations, his family has run Great Lakes Hotel Supply, which Israel just moved to a new location in Southfield. This location is also the home of the new, state-of-the-art Great Lakes Culinary Center. This culinary center will be home to cooking classes, equipment demonstrations, educational programming for children and, of course, private parties. Israel said, "No one in the country does everything this center does, and we're pleased to offer it all in one place:' At the company's new Southfield home, not only can chefs come learn about new cooking equipment, but they will also be able to receive advice from the Great Lakes on-site professional chef, Jim Bologna. "Opening your own restaurant can seem like a daunting task:' Bologna said.
