us. He became noticeably more quiet
after the Oswald shooting.
As a teen, I became very interested
in the Kennedy assassination and the
many theories that emerged. An active
member of the Young Judaea youth
group, I remember attending a special
meeting in someone's darkened den to
watch a copy of Abraham Zapruder's
gruesome home movie that shows a
bullet hitting Kennedy's head.
The speaker, Penn Jones Jr., editor of
the nearby Midloathian Mirror, was one
of the earliest Kennedy assassination
conspiracy theorists.
To make his point about bullets com-
ing from a direction other than the
Texas School Book Depository window,
he kept rewinding the film and showing
the president's head exploding again
and again. It's an image hard to erase
from my mind.
So is the image of the very young
John Kennedy Jr. saluting as his father's
coffin rolls by.
Fifty years later, we may never know
the truth. A lone assassin or a well-
planned conspiracy? But those of us who
were a certain age then all know exactly
where we were on Nov. 22, 1963.

Where Were You?
On Facebook, the JN asked people to
tell us where they were when President
Kennedy was assassinated. Here are
some of their comments:
• Nancy Federman Kaplan, West
Bloomfield: "Sitting in 12th-grade civ-
ics class, announcement came over PA
that the President had been shot, a few
minutes later an announcement that
he was dead:'
Join Jews, Chaldeans
At The Holocaust Center
The Jewish and Chaldean Social
Action Committee, part of the
Building Community Initiative
between the Jewish News and the
Chaldean News, will hold its next
social action event 6-8:30 p.m.
Wednesday, Dec. 4, at the Holocaust
Memorial Center in Farmington Hills.
Rabbi Josh Bennett will kick off the
evening with an introduction about
the critical need for community and
social action, and attendees will take
an hour tour of the HMC's exhib-
its. Following the tour, Jewish and
Chaldean participants come together
to discuss how to combat stereotypes,
misunderstandings, bullying and hate.
The committee requests that par-
ticipants bring winter coats, hats and
gloves for needy families in both the
Jewish and Chaldean communities.
The event is free, but registration is
required. Email Rula Yono at rula@
chaldeanfederation.org or call (248)

Volunteers Sought For
Prostate Cancer Study
Researchers at Beaumont Health
System are seeking volunteers for
a prostate cancer treatment study.
Participants, age 65 and older, must
have early-stage prostate cancer. The
purpose of this study is to evaluate the
safety and effectiveness of an MRI-
guided ultrasound therapy system to
destroy cancerous prostate tissue.
Participants with localized prostate
cancer will undergo MRI-guided
transurethral (through the urethra)
ultrasound therapy with the aim to
treat the whole prostate gland. Patients
will be followed for a minimum of 12
months to check on their progress and
any side effects, monitor their quality
of life and signs of prostate cancer.
For information, including eligibil-
ity, call Maureen Cooney at (248)
