Recipe: Sweet

Holiday chocolates for Chanukah.

Potato Latkes

2 sweet potatoes,
peeled & shredded
2 eggs, beaten
1 tbsp brown sugar
2 tbsp rice flour
2 tsp ground cloves
2 tsp ground cinnamon
1 /4 cp vegetable oil
for frying

1) Place sweet potatoes in a colander. Cover with cheese cloth and press down to
release as much liquid as possible. Let sit to release more liquid, then repeat. 2)
In a large bowl, combine sweet potatoes, eggs, brown sugar, rice flour, cloves and
cinnamon; mix well. 3) Heat oil in large heavy skillet to 375 degrees F (190
degrees C). Form mixture into pancake size cakes, and fry in hot oil. 4) Flip cakes
after 2 to 3 minutes (when bottom is browned) and brown the other side. Drain on
paper towels, and serve piping hot! Makes 8 sweet potato latkes.

This chocolate dreidel tips the scales at more than 50 lbs.

special conversation starter
at your Thanksgivukah or
Chanukah celebration? How about a
jumbo hand-sculpted chocolate dreidel
2 feet high and weighing in at more
than 50 pounds?
You can find one at Ross Fine
Candies in Waterford.
"We had requests to build a giant
dreidel:' said co-owner Penny Barnes,
who adds that a giant chocolate turkey
also is available.
Ross Fine Candies was opened in
1948 by Barnes' grandmother Mary
Williams, and the company uses only
Belgian chocolates in their products.
This year, its Chanukah candy is on
the rise. "We've been slowly building
up over the past few years:' Barnes
said.
Ross Fine Candies has a selection
of chocolate menorahs, Stars of David
and dreidels ranging in price from
$2.99 to $525 (for the humungous
dreidel). All of our products are certi-
fied kosher:' she adds.
The store also has chocolate turkeys
ranging in price from $1.99 to $50.

showroom at 4642 Elizabeth Lake
Road in Waterford Township. That's
where the giant dreidel will be on dis-
play until it is sold. Hours are Monday-
Friday: 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and Saturdays
from 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
