of glass are painstakingly cut and
finessed to piece together a puzzle
with other materials, including found
objects, such as beads, stones, shells,
fused glass and more. Hermann
applies her skills to creations from
coasters and trivets, picture frames
and mirrors to windows, wall hang-
ings and masks, from flat surfaces to
multidimensional sculptural pieces.
She often scours flea markets, estate
sales and Salvation Army shops for
recycled items to use in her art, such
as windows ("I've got a dozen in my
basement waiting for me to work on"),
tables and more. "Treasure hunting
is a fun perk of this new passion of
mine Hermann says. "I will mosaic
anything that doesn't move:'
Although Hermann's mosaics are

sprinkled with other objects for tex-
ture and interest, she always comes
back to glass. "I love the feeling of the
glass:' Hermann says. "I love shap-
ing each little piece that I cut. I love
the colors. I love putting the pieces
together and seeing what happens
when different colors are next to each
other. It's like building. I don't know
where the passion comes from, but
I get absorbed in the process of it. It
carries me away and the hours just
pass. I have never experienced any-
thing like this in my life:'
